In our classroom, we focus is on tackling our work with a growth mindset.  What is that you ask?  It's the understanding that our brains are elastic and we learn best from taking on challenges, even if we make mistakes . In our classroom, we strive to become independent thinkers.  In our classroom, we think outside of the box. In our classroom, we are scientists, explorers, authors, and readers. In our classroom, we are a community of learners. In our classroom, we work hard to play hard.

Welcome!!!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to 5th grade!  I look forward to getting to know each of you and I know we’re all going to have a great year together!   Just so there are no surprises, I want to go over my expectations and class policies.  In order to help you grow as a student, I have several goals and areas of focus for each of you.  They are the following:

  • Organization-  students need to work this year to develop a  system that helps keep homework, notes and projects  organized, so  work can get turned in on time.
  • Work Quality- students need to turn in work that reflects their personal best.  We all have different strengths and  capabilities, but I do expect students to put forth their best effort in what they do.  Students need to turn in their own work, which has been proofread and edited.
  • Productivity-   students should make good use of classroom time and resources to get work done.  Student behavior should not interfere with anyone else’s learning.
  • Positive Growth Mindset- although we all may encounter struggle or be asked to do work we don’t want to do, if we can learn to work with a positive spirit, great results can occur. We learn that mistakes are a necessary part of learning and success, and learn to be resilient when we encounter failure.  With the right mindset, anything can happen!

“Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”            ~ John Wooden

Let’s have a terrific year of learning, fun and great memories!
